1. WHO AM I? I have a strong background in the thoroughbred business, to know more about me click here.
2. WHAT DOES IT COST TO TRAIN A HORSE?
As the cost of everything rises, it is getting extremely difficult for all owners and particularly the smaller owner to afford to keep horses in training. Annually, it now costs between $20,000 - $35,000 in training expenses alone at a smaller track ($50,000-$60,000 at a major track), plus an additional 30%-60% or ($6,000-$12,000 at smaller tracks and $10,000- $20,000 at larger tracks) in vet bills and an additional $1,200 -$2,500 in blacksmith expenses to get the basic training accomplished. Then you add vanning, travel, and other miscellaneous expenses and the owner’s have no chance to make money.
3. HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT?
This is different because unlike other racing stables you will pay a flat day rate that will cover basic training (normal and customary Training, normal Vet, & normal Blacksmith)
4. DESCRIBE NORMAL TRAINING, NORMAL VET & NORMAL BLACKSMITH?
For the purpose of the subsidy racing stable NORMAL TRAINING is described as training that is customary within our industry. (IT DOES NOT INCLUDE SWIMMING, TREADMILL, UNDERWATER TREADMILL, ASTRIDE, ALTITUDE or anything else not listed). NORMAL VET (Health Certs, Post Race Vitamin Build Up, Routine Pre Race, ONE pre race lung treatment per month, 2 FREE Endoscope Exams per month, Routine SINGLE dose worming, Routine Vaccination, 2 sets of Hock Injections in a 24 week span). NORMAL BLACKSMITH One set of normal round toe shoes every trim (anything other than this is considered special shoeing).
BARN MEDICATIONS, LEG PAINTS, SPECIAL POULTICES, ORAL OR TOPICAL MEDICATION AND SUPPLEMENTS ARE NOT CONSIDERED NORMAL AND MUST BE PROVIDED.
ANYTHING ELSE NOT LISTED ABOVE IS NOT CONSIDERED NORMAL AND IS NOT COVERED.
5. HOW CAN I HELP? I, like most owners, love racing horses but have been frustrated by the rather overbearing cost of basic training. Therefore, I have decided to come up with an idea that benefits existing owners and can encourage new owners to get in the game by keeping daily expenses restrained.
6. THE SUBSIDY RACING STABLE CONCEPT? Is a concept that was created to benefit owners and everybody (Trainer, Groom, Exercise Rider, Blacksmith, Vet, Hot Walker, morning pony person) that deals with that horse. The stable will earn 22% stake of First – Fourth place earnings.
Charge the owners a FLAT RATE and send them ONE BILL that covers the cost of basic training. Do not keep horses in the barn that are not running and performing. Share the risk of training expenses with each owner. If the horse is not operating at profit move him out of your barn as there is no money to be made on day rate in the subsidized program.
7. IS THIS PROGRAM RIGHT FOR ME AND MY HORSE? This program is right for all horses and owners that feel PERFORMANCE COUNTS.
8. WHAT KIND OF OWNER WILL NOT FIT THIS PROGRAM? The kind of owner that is interested in running his horse where he cannot be competitive.
9. WILL YOU TAKE MY HORSE? I will take your horse in this subsidized program only if he is close to racing (30-60 days) or currently racing after I have examined his form, soundness, vet evaluation etc. The costs associated with this program will force me to be very Selective (this is sharing risk with owners) in picking horses.
10. WILL YOU TAKE UNRACED HORSES OR HORSES COMING OFF LONG LAYOFF’S? I will NOT take unraced horses or horses coming off long layoffs in the subsidy training program.
11. DEFINE UNRACED HORSE OR HORSES COMING OFF LONG LAYOFFS? For the purpose of this subsidy program as far as I am concerned an unraced horse or long layoff horse is a horse that is 90 or more days from reaching the races.
12. I HAVE SEVERAL UNRACED HORSES AND LONG LAYOFF HORSES? WHAT SHOULD I DO? I do have a cost effective program to fit these types of horses talk to me for further details. I can take your horse from a horse that has never been saddled to a racetrack veteran and get them ready to run.
13. I HAVE A HORSE THAT I DO NOT WANT IN YOUR SUBSIDY PROGRAM? WILL YOU TRAIN HIM? I will be happy to train him for you at normal and customary rates.
